玛丽·荷·艾斯（MarieHallEts），1895年生于美国威斯康星州的米尔沃基。自幼喜欢绘画，就读于劳伦斯学院和纽约美术学校，毕业后从事室内设计。第一任丈夫在第一次世界大战中去世后，她放弃了绘画，转而从事儿童福利事业。1921年，她受红十字会派遣远赴捷克继续儿童福利工作，却因医疗事故导致健康受损，次年回国。1943年，她在照顾病重的第二任丈夫时重拾画笔，断断续续开始了《在森林里》的创作。丈夫过世之后赴纽约正式学习绘本创作。 艾斯共出版了二十一本图画书，其中《在森林里》、《像我平常那样》、《和我玩好吗》、《宾尼先生的赛马》、《安东尼·乌先生》等五本获凯迪克银奖，1960年《还差九天圣诞节》获凯迪克金奖。艾斯的作品以简单隽永见长，常表现她对动物的热爱及与大自然的深刻交流。她被美国绘本界誉为上世纪三四十年代树立了绘本典范的作家之一。

让·热内（Jean Genet 1910-1986），法国作家。弃儿，早年流浪、偷窃，多次被捕入狱。在狱中开始写作诗歌和小说，包括《死囚》、《鲜花圣母》、《小偷日记》等。纪德、科克托最早发现其作品，奉为天才，后联合萨特、巴塔耶等数十位作家联名向法国总统请愿，要求终身赦免 仍在狱中服刑的热内，获准。出狱后，热内转入戏剧创作，代表作有《女仆》、《阳台》、《黑鬼》、《屏风》等，跻身于一流剧作家之列。后介入社会运动，支持所有受压迫者的反抗，尤其是巴勒斯坦解放组织和黑豹党。生前就在权威的文学出版社伽俐玛出版了《热内全集》，萨特为其写了长达七百多页的序言，题为《圣热内：戏剧演员和殉道者》。德里达的《丧钟》一书将热内的小说与黑格尔的《精神现象学》并排陈列，加以论述，在这种文本游戏中敲响了西方思想文化的丧钟。
